When you do not receive e-mail notifications

Article Number:040377

If you do not receive e-mail notifications, possible causes are as follows:

1. Settings required for e-mail notifications are not configured
2. Notifications are also not received on Kintone Portal
3. The E-mail Notifications feature is not applicable for the notifications in question
4. You do not receive e-mail notifications due to mail server/client settings
5. The same e-mail address is used for multiple users

Following are the solutions for each of the causes.

1. Settings required for e-mail notifications are not configured

The action you should take differs in the two cases: the cases where you receive no e-mail notifications at all, and the cases where you do not receive some of the e-mail notifications.

If you receive no e-mail notifications at all

Check that e-mail notifications are enabled in Kintone Users & System Administration and Kintone Administration.
If the Administration settings are configured correctly, next open your Personal Settings and check that Do not receive is not selected for E-mail Notifications.

If you do not receive some of the e-mail notifications

If you do not receive some e-mail notifications, check the following settings.

Check the settings in Kintone Administration

  1. Open Kintone Administration.
    Opening the Kintone Administration Screen

  2. From the Other category, click Feature Activation.

  3. Check the settings in E-mail Notifications.
You may not receive some e-mail notifications if Send REST API notifications by e-mail is disabled. To receive e-mail notifications also for REST API operations carried out on Kintone, enable this option.

  4. Click Save if you have changed any settings.

Check your Personal Settings to see what kind of notifications are notified via e-mail

  1. Click Gear icon at the upper-right of the screen and then click Personal Settings. The screen to open Personal Settings
  2. Check the E-mail Notifications setting.
If Only "To Me" is selected, notifications except for "To Me" notifications are not sent via e-mail. Select All notifications if you want to receive "All" notifications via e-mail.
The "E-mail Notifications" section in Personal Settings
  3. Click Save if you have changed any settings.

2. Notifications are also not received on Kintone Portal

When notifications are not received on Kintone Portal, you also do not receive e-mail notifications.
For details, refer to When you do not receive notifications.

3. The E-mail Notifications feature is not applicable for the notifications in question

Some notifications, such as the notifications for Likes to your comments, are not sent via e-mails.
Check whether notifications in question are those for which the E-mail Notification feature is applicable.
Notifications for which the E-mail Notifications feature is not applicable are listed in the "Note" section of the "When and to Whom Notifications Are Sent" page.
You can also find it out by triggering the notifications and testing if e-mail notifications are sent.

4. You do not receive e-mail notifications due to mail server/client settings

The cause is considered to be either of the following:

  • The mail server is configured in such a way as not to receive e-mails whose "To" field is empty
Recipients of e-mail notifications are specified as "Bcc."
Depending on the mail server you are using, e-mails whose "To" field is empty may be filtered out, and as a result, you may not receive the e-mails.
Check the settings of the mail server.

  • E-mails from the sender's e-mail address are rejected
Change the setting so that e-mails from the sender's e-mail address are accepted.

5. The same e-mail address is used for multiple users

If the recipient e-mail address, date and time at which the e-mail notification is sent, and the body of the e-mail notification are the same, only one e-mail is sent.
Although Kintone notifications are sent to each users separately, e-mail notifications are put together.
Consider setting different e-mail addresses to users who receive e-mail notifications.
