Troubleshooting: Desktop Notifications from Kintone Don't Appear

If Kintone desktop notifications do not appear, it may be due to one of the following reasons.

Desktop notifications have not been enabled in all of the necessary settings

To receive desktop notifications from Kintone, desktop notifications need to be enabled in all of the following settings.

  • Settings to be configured by a Kintone Administrator:
    • The Update Options settings in Kintone Administration
  • Settings to be configured by users who want to receive desktop notifications:
    • Personal Settings in Kintone
    • Web browser's notification settings
    • OS's notification settings

See below for the steps to enable desktop notifications in each of the settings.

Enabling desktop notifications in Kintone Administration

A Kintone Administrator needs to select the Enable this feature: Receive "To Me" Notifications on Desktop When Kintone is Opened in Google Chrome Browser checkbox under New Features in Development on the "Update Options" screen.

Enabling desktop notifications in Personal Settings in Kintone

Users who want to receive desktop notifications need to be using Google Chrome and enable Desktop Notifications on the "Personal Settings" screen in Kintone by following the steps below.

  1. Click the Settings icon (the gear-shaped icon at the top of Kintone), then click Personal Settings.

  2. Select Enable under Desktop Notifications, then click Save.

  3. When a pop-up message appears in your web browser asking if you want to allow notifications sent from Kintone, click Allow.

When a user who wants to receive desktop notifications enables Desktop Notifications in their Personal Settings, a pop-up message will appear in their web browser asking if they want to allow notifications sent from Kintone. When this pop-up message appears, they should click Allow.

If the pop-up message does not appear in a user's web browser, they should allow notifications from Kintone in their Google Chrome notification settings.

Enabling desktop notifications in OS settings

Users who want to receive desktop notifications need to allow notifications from Google Chrome in the settings of the OS on which they are using Kintone.

  • For Windows: Configure the settings from Notifications in Settings.
  • For Mac: Configure the settings from Notifications in System Settings.

When "To Me" notifications were received in Kintone, Kintone was not open in a web browser tab

Desktop notifications only appear when Kintone is open in a tab in Google Chrome.

A web browser other than Google Chrome is being used to display Kintone

Desktop notifications can be received only when Google Chrome is used as the web browser for Kintone.
If you are using a web browser other than Google Chrome, you will not be able to receive desktop notifications.

"To Me" notifications were not received in Kintone

Desktop notifications only appear for "To Me" notifications.
You will not receive desktop notifications when you receive "All" notifications.

A Kintone "To Me" notification was viewed in a web browser before the desktop notification could appear

There is a time delay between when a "To Me" notification is received in Kintone and when its desktop notification appears.
If you view the content of a "To Me" notification in your web browser before the desktop notification arrives, a desktop notification will not appear.
